The V-Pleat Sconce was created in response to a project brief for a flat-pack product. My design is inspired by the art of origami.

The biggest challenge in this project was determining a way to make the delicate paper safely transportable, while also having enough structure to fix to a wall. After experimenting with laser cutting and 3D printing, I settled on a collapsible shade with magnetic attachments to a metal backplate. All components were handmade but can be easily manufactured, save for the shade, which requires hand folding after the lines are laser etched.

The test at the end of this project was to have a group of guests come in and assemble the product with only written instructions, having never seen it before.
My sconce was successfully unpacked and assembled in under ten minutes.

The V-Pleat Sconce is a sophisticated lighting fixture created for easy installation and use. The design is lightweight and affordable. Future iterations will include a variety of shade designs and shapes, as well as an adaptable backplate so shades can be interchangeable.
